Alexa Fulbright and the Power to Go Red
At the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, we take immense pride in the leadership of our Board of Directors. Today we are honored to highlight a special mission being led by one of our own, Alexa Fulbright.
Alexa has been nominated as a 2026 Woman of Impact for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement. This is more than just a nomination for Alexa. It is a call to action for our entire business community to come together and address the leading cause of death in women, which is cardiovascular disease.

A Personal Journey
“My journey with heart health started with my mom. She was traditionally healthy, so when she began experiencing signs and symptoms, it did not immediately raise alarms. But she knew something did not feel right, and thankfully, she chose to get it checked out. That decision changed everything.
At the age of 52, she was diagnosed with severe heart disease and had to undergo a double bypass surgery, a major procedure where surgeons reroute blood flow around blocked arteries to keep the heart functioning. If she had ignored those warning signs, it could have led to a massive heart attack, and I could have lost her.
Heart disease is not just something my family experienced once. It runs in our family. My mom’s brother passed away, at the age of 48, from a major heart attack, and her father did as well at the age of 62. It is something that has been silently present across generations, and something we now understand is also more common within Hispanic families. But because my mom listened to her body, sought care, and acted, she is still here with us today.
I think about it often, about what could have been lost. Not just her life, but the last 15 years we have had with her. The memories, the milestones, and her becoming a grandmother. That is what makes this campaign so personal. It is a reminder that prevention matters. Awareness matters. Listening to your body matters. Acting early can literally save your life, especially when there is a family history.
As a mother myself, this campaign has taken on an even deeper meaning. I want to continue sharing my family story and raising awareness of cardiovascular disease, but it has also made me more aware of the responsibility I have to take care of myself. I want to be here for my children for as long as I possibly can, to be present for their lives, their milestones, and their futures.
It’s also important for my kids to be a part of this journey with me. I want them to see every step of my efforts in this campaign, to understand why it matters, and to witness what it looks like to show up for something bigger than yourself. This is more than just awareness, its legacy. I want my children to grow up knowing the importance of taking care of their health, advocating for themselves, and using their voices and platforms to make an impact in the lives of others.
If sharing my story throughout this campaign encourages just one person to pay attention to the signs, to get checked, or to take their health more seriously, then everything I have poured into this campaign has been worth it to me.”

The Mission to Go Red
The Go Red for Women movement is a national initiative led by the American Heart Association to close the gap in research, education, and clinical care for women’s heart health. By supporting Alexa’s campaign, you are doing more than helping her reach a fundraising goal. You are advancing life saving research, expanding education around the signs and symptoms of heart disease, and promoting healthy lifestyle education right here in Corpus Christi. Together, we can help turn awareness into action.
Upcoming Campaign Events
You can support the cause at two local events this spring.

How the Coastal Bend Can Help
As leaders in the United Corpus Christi Chamber, we know the power of collective impact. We invite our members, partners, and neighbors to stand with Alexa and honor her mother’s story by contributing to this vital cause.
Every contribution helps turn awareness into action. You can support Alexa’s campaign directly through her American Heart Association page or spread the word about heart health symptoms and the Go Red movement. You can even join Alexa’s fundraising team to help drive even more impact.
The campaign is active now through April 9, 2026 at 9:00 PM. Let’s show the rest of the country the heart of the Coastal Bend.
