The Coastal Bend was alive with energy this past weekend as the 16th Annual Barefoot Mardi Gras took over Padre Island. For the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, it was a fantastic opportunity to step out of the office and into the heart of a celebration that defines our unique local culture.

A Historic Day for Padre Island
This year’s festivities were officially the largest in the event’s 16-year history. Thousands of residents and visitors lined the beach to witness a record-breaking parade that featured over 100 entries. Seeing the community show up in such massive numbers is a powerful reminder of the vibrant spirit that drives our region forward. From the colorful floats to the high-energy walking groups, the creativity on display was a testament to the talent we have right here in our own backyard.

A View From the Judges Table
I had the distinct honor of representing the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce as an official judge for this year’s float contest for the second consecutive year. Sitting alongside fellow community leaders, I had a front-row seat to the incredible ingenuity of our neighbors. It was no easy task to score such a diverse and spirited lineup of entries, as every participant brought something unique to the sand.

The level of detail and hard work that local businesses and organizations poured into their displays was truly impressive. Being part of the judging panel allowed me to see firsthand the dedication it takes to coordinate a procession of this magnitude. It was a privilege to help recognize the creativity and passion that make our Coastal Bend community so special.

Community Connection in Action

At the United Corpus Christi Chamber, we believe leadership means being present where the community gathers. Participating in Barefoot Mardi Gras is about more than just beads and music as it is about supporting the traditions that bring people together and showcase the best of our region.

We enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces on the sand and witnessing the record-breaking turnout firsthand. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the parade and contributed to making this year a historic success for Padre Island.
