Advocacy at Work: Why Our Voice Matters on Water

Al Arreola Jr.

President & CEO

At the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, advocacy is not a buzzword. It is a cornerstone of our mission. As a business organization funded by businesses, we exist to serve the real needs of our members and the broader community through credible information, meaningful engagement, and action-oriented leadership.

Since 2020, the Chamber’s Board of Directors has consistently passed member-driven resolutions prioritizing water access and long-term water security. These are not political positions. They are practical ones, grounded in the everyday realities our businesses face. We have supported this issue not because it is trendy but because it is essential.

Water is not a luxury. It is foundational to public health, workforce development, economic growth, and overall quality of life. We believe in working together across industries, neighborhoods, and all levels of government to find sustainable solutions that secure our region’s future.

That belief has guided our long-standing engagement on major projects like the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus. The Chamber has monitored progress, engaged with key stakeholders, and issued continued calls to action in support of smart, sustainable solutions for our water needs.

Moments of decision-making at the local level are reminders of how democracy functions. It has always been part of our civic process that when matters of regional importance arise, City Council expects to hear from the community, including the business leaders who help drive our economy forward.

Participating in public meetings, staying informed, and offering comments during designated periods are important parts of that process. They help ensure decisions reflect both current realities and long-term priorities.

We appreciate the work of our elected officials and their efforts to consider complex infrastructure needs. The Chamber remains committed to pursuing objective, fact-based advocacy on behalf of our members and supporting practical solutions that promote prosperity and resiliency.
