Access to a reliable water supply is not just a public utility issue—it’s an economic imperative. As Corpus Christi continues to grow, so does the demand for sustainable and diverse water sources. That’s why the upcoming Alternative Water Supply Workshop on March 6 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.) is crucial for our business community.

What’s on the Agenda?

This workshop, requested by the City Council, will explore multiple water supply projects aimed at securing Corpus Christi’s long-term water future. The agenda includes:

✅ Brackish Groundwater Projects – Exploring desalination options from sources like EV Ranch, Evangeline, and Seven Seas.
✅ Seawater Desalination – Updates on the Barney Davis and Nueces River Authority proposals.
✅ Infrastructure Investments – Progress on the Inner Harbor and La Quinta Water Treatment projects.
✅ Short-term Solutions – Emergency water supply options, including Nueces River water wells and wastewater reuse.

Notably, some projects are presented by outside entities and have not yet undergone evaluation by city staff or consultants.

Our Position

The United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce strongly supports a proactive, diversified approach to water security. Reliable access to water impacts every industry—from manufacturing and petrochemicals to small businesses and tourism. We advocate for responsible, cost-effective solutions that ensure long-term sustainability while supporting business growth.

Water shortages or disruptions could affect local businesses through increased costs, operational delays, or restrictions. That’s why we encourage our members to stay informed and engaged in these discussions.
