Are you a high school student in Corpus Christi ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Do you dream of exploring new cultures, gaining real-world experience, and building lifelong connections across the globe?

We’re thrilled to announce that the Corpus Christi Sister City Program, powered by the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, is awarding four $1,500 scholarships to support high school students who want to participate in our Student Exchange Program!

This unique opportunity connects local students with our global sister cities — and it might just be the first step toward your future career.

✈️ What Is the Sister City Student Exchange Program?

Our High School Student Exchange Program offers sophomores and juniors the chance to experience life abroad andhost a student here in Corpus Christi. Over a four-week period, you’ll:

  • Live with a host family in one of our sister cities,
  • Attend school and cultural activities with your host student,
  • Explore new traditions and perspectives, and
  • Share your own culture when your exchange partner stays with you. 

The first two weeks are spent abroad, and the following two weeks your exchange partner will live with you in Corpus Christi. It’s cultural immersion and community building — all in one experience.

For Corpus Christi, this program has meant building relationships with cities across the globe, bridging distance through exchanges, delegations, and collaborative initiatives that bring the world closer to the Coastal Bend.

We are offering four $1,500 scholarships to help make this life-changing opportunity more accessible. Whether you’re passionate about food, international relations, or global industry — there’s a place for your ambition!

🍽️ For Aspiring Culinary Professionals — Agen, France

Are you passionate about cooking, hospitality, or the culinary arts? Set your sights on Agen, France — a sister city deeply rooted in food traditions, rich culture, and European cuisine. This experience offers:

  • A chance to connect global flavors with hometown pride.
  • Exposure to French culinary arts,
  • Hands-on cultural exploration,
  • Inspiration from regional food specialties, and

For our members and the broader business community, the Chamber’s stewardship of the Sister Cities program ensures that Corpus Christi remains engaged in a global conversation. One that supports innovation, trade, and cultural enrichment.

⚓ For Future Maritime, Shipbuilding & Logistics Leaders — Yokosuka, Japan

Interested in ships, ports, or global logistics? Yokosuka, Japan is one of Corpus Christi’s longest-standing sister cities and a world-renowned maritime community. A scholarship to Yokosuka offers:

  • Inspiration for careers that drive international trade and industry.
  • First-hand insight into port operations and shipbuilding culture,
  • Immersive learning alongside local students,
  • Cross-cultural leadership opportunities, and

🛫 Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the exchange program (and the scholarship), applicants must:

  • Be a current 10th or 11th grade student attending high school within Corpus Christi city limits,
  • Be available for all travel, orientation, and hosting dates,
  • Be recommended by a school counselor or administrator,
  • Be excited to represent Corpus Christi as a student ambassador.


🗓️ Timeline & How It Works

While specific dates vary by year, here’s how the program typically flows:

  1. Application & Interest Forms – Applications Due February 27th.
  2. Interviews & Selection – Conducted on March 21st.
  3. Orientation – Training session on April 25th.
  4. Travel & Hosting – Students spend two weeks abroad followed by hosting their partner for two weeks back home. 

Scholarships help with travel costs, but families are generally responsible for airfare and personal expenses. Host families provide room and board during hosting weeks.
