The 2025 Salute to the Military Luncheon presented by Corpus Christi Medical Center was a powerful and inspiring tribute to the men and women who serve in our Coastal Bend military community. This annual tradition brings together service members, business leaders, and civic partners to recognize the essential role our military plays both locally and around the globe.

The program opened with heartfelt remarks from United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, Cindy Barrera, who warmly welcomed attendees and set the tone for the afternoon. She closed her remarks with a solemn moment of silence in honor of the victims of the devastating Hill Country flooding, reminding us of the importance of unity in times of crisis.
Event highlights included updates from two of our region’s most important military installations. Commander Colonel Kevin Consedine of the Corpus Christi Army Depot provided a forward-looking overview of the Army’s Transformation Initiative and what it means for CCAD’s role in supporting the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft. Captain Michael Bishop, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Kingsville, discussed the growing national shortage of air traffic controllers and how it is impacting naval aviation training pipelines.

The program also featured an engaging panel of U.S. Coast Guard Master Chiefs: Master Chief Melissa Sharer, Master Chief Petty Officer Anthony Soto, and Command Master Chief Shannon Brugh. Each shared their personal journey in choosing a life of service, offering stories of pride, perseverance, and the honor of wearing the uniform.
Closing the program with a keynote address was Vice Admiral Daniel Dwyer, U.S. Navy Deputy Chief of Naval Operations and former Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA). Speaking to a full room of uniformed personnel and community leaders, Vice Admiral Dwyer reflected on the evolving mission of the U.S. Navy through the lens of his distinguished career. He traced the geopolitical landscape from the Cold War and post-Soviet peace, to the Gulf War and post-9/11 conflicts, and into today’s complex strategic environment marked by increasing tensions with China. His remarks were insightful, personal, and deeply appreciated by all in attendance.

This year’s event also reinforced the importance of the Chambers’ South Texas Military Task Force (STMTF), a vital regional initiative committed to supporting and strengthening the presence of military installations in South Texas. STMTF advocates for key missions and infrastructure at facilities like Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Naval Air Station Kingsville, and the Corpus Christi Army Depot. Their work ensures South Texas remains a premier location for military operations, readiness, and innovation, and continues to play a pivotal role in national defense strategy.
The 2025 Salute to the Military was not only a celebration of service but a reminder of the strong bond between the Coastal Bend community and those who protect it. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who serve, and to the local leaders, including the South Texas Military Task Force, who continue to champion the military’s vital role in our region’s economy, security, and identity.
