Chamber Applauds Action to Protect Texas and the Coastal Bend’s Future

The United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) applauds Governor Greg Abbott for making the need for water infrastructure funding to address the ongoing water crisis an emergency item for the 89th Texas Legislature. This significant step highlights the urgency of addressing critical water challenges, particularly as Corpus Christi, Portland, Robstown, Port Aransas, Rockport, Beeville, and Kingsville face Stage 3 water restrictions due to ongoing drought conditions.
The declaration represents a major step for the Coastal Bend and the state as a whole, laying the groundwork for legislative action to create a sustainable and reliable funding for addressing water supply challenges.
“Corpus Christi, along with neighboring cities like Portland, Robstown, Port Aransas, Rockport, Beeville, and Kingsville is experiencing severe water challenges that require immediate attention,” said Al Arreola, Jr., President & CEO of the Chamber. “This emergency designation stresses the urgent need for everyone to work together and take action to find long-term solutions that protect communities across the Coastal Bend, ensuring reliable water supplies for residents, businesses, and the workforce that drives our economy.
